From Pontiff To Third Term? The image posted to Elon Musk’s Goebbelsian fever dream social media platform, “X,” depicts the President as the supreme pontiff. Of course, predictably, this causes outrage among Catholics, bishops, and MSNBC goes into apoplectic meltdown mode. Conservative media chortling, no doubt, about “owning the libs.” Everyone remains shocked that gambling is going on in the casino, but this event deserves more than outrage. It is another sign of a severe breakdown of domestic and international systems.

The culture war nobody's talking about.
We usually talk about “enshittification” in terms of user experience. The slow death of platforms as they prioritize quarterly returns over anything resembling public service. Instagram throttles organic reach. Amazon feels like walking through a strip mall designed by a casino. Google Search is so bloated with ads it barely functions as search anymore. Facebook is a rage machine. TikTok is a dopamine slot machine, curated by opaque algorithms. Image created by Ideogram

The “Tipping Point” Has Been Misunderstood |
The Chris Cuomo Project |
|
Malcolm Gladwell (author, Revenge of the Tipping Point) joins Chris Cuomo for an in-depth conversation on the role of critical thinking in navigating today’s complex world. Gladwell discusses how the concept of the “tipping point,” which he popularised, has been misunderstood and misused in public discourse, and reflects on how the COVID pandemic has reshaped our approach to decision-making. Together, they examine the growing challenges of political polarization, the spread of misinformation, and why cultivating curiosity and skepticism is more important than ever in an age where quick judgments and surface-level solutions dominate.

THE WRITING LONG GAME By Tom Kuegler
In 2019, I watched someone I greatly respected blatantly steal from me. They took a video I made for Facebook—which got 2,000,000 views—downloaded it, and reposted it natively on their LinkedIn profile. They tagged me, of course, to wash their hands of blame.. But it was deeply, deeply dirty. “Why Tom? He was doing you a favor!”
Aww! He was doing me a favor?

Chance, Choice, and How to Claim Your Life THE MARGINALIAN ***
Only a fool or an egomaniac would deny that chance shapes the vast majority of life. The time, place, culture, family, body, brain, and biochemistry we are born into, the people who cross our path, the accidents that befall us — these dwarf in consequence the sum total of our choices. Still, our choices are the points of light that flicker against the opaque immensity of chance to illuminate our lives with meaning, just as stars, all the billions of them, comprise a mere 0.4% percent of a universe made mostly of dark energy and dark matter, and yet those same sparse stars made everything we know and are.

A New American Awakening
AFTER BABEL ***
We believe the erosion of social capital throughout the 1970s and 1980s can explain why Americans took away the play-based childhood in the 1990s. When Americans lost trust in each other, they stopped letting their children roam around without direct adult supervision. But when Zach met with Putnam, the conversation was not primarily about the destruction of social capital. Instead, Putnam talked about renewal—about how deeply polarized and fragmented societies have...
