Supreme Court denies Trump request to block $2 billion foreign-aid payment

A divided Supreme Court on Wednesday turned down a request by the Trump administration to lift an order by a federal judge in Washington, D.C., that had directed the State Department and the U.S. Agency for International Development to pay nearly $2 billion in foreign-aid reimbursements for work that has already been done.

Syrian security forces executing dozens of Alawites

Syrian security forces are alleged to have executed dozens of people belonging to the Alawite minority in the coastal province of Latakia, according to a war monitoring group.

The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said 162 civilians have been killed in "field executions" in the region - a heartland of deposed president Bashir al-Assad, who also belongs to the Alawite sect.

US - 3 Volunteers carry out Bloody Execution

Brad Sigmon was strapped to a chair and shot by 3 volunteers. There was a basin under the chair to catch blood.

Prison guards offered witnesses ear plugs to protect their ears from the sound of the shots.

Counselling services are being offered to any prison staff who were traumatised by the execution.

Ahead of Sigmon's execution, anti-death penalty protesters held a rally outside the jail in the city of Columbia.
