We’ve become aware of an issue with some D2D Print titles either not showing up immediately on Amazon or showing up as a preorder after the preorder has released. We’ve traced the issue to Amazon’s internal handling of 979 ISBNs, which is causing some (but not all) D2D Print titles to be caught in this error. This issue is impacting both user-provided and D2D-provided ISBNs with the 979 prefix.

To see if your book(s) has a 979 ISBN, Click on MY BOOKS. Click your book title. Then click on the orange Print Book tab. Your ISBN is displayed directly below the cover. These are ISBNs that start with the numerals 979 as their first three digits. ISBNs with a prefix of 979 are relatively new to the industry, and as such, it’s our understanding that not all infrastructure across the industry is ingesting 979 ISBNs seamlessly.

ISBNs using the older 978 prefix are not being affected by this issue.

We know this is a frustrating experience for authors with titles that are caught up in this issue, and we are aware that D2D is not the only distributor whose authors are being negatively impacted. We are also aware that blame is being placed on D2D, which can further frustrate our authors.

We want you to know that we’re working with both our print partner and Amazon to find ways to mitigate the problem.

As you may be aware, this can be a lengthy process. There are many moving parts, and communication with Amazon can be slow. But we are confident that this can be resolved soon.
